Southern Baptist Church host NC Bike Week May 1-5,2004

Conover, NC April 22, 2004 -- Southern Baptist Church in NC spreads the word via bikers.Dr.Ruffin E. Snow has pastored churches for 41 years and has also been a lifelong motorcyclist. Clad in his black leather jacket and boots, he is heaven on wheels this up coming week at Tri-City Baptist Church located about 60 miles north of Charlotte. The church started in 1989 with 42 members and has grown to over 1800. In 1999 Dr. Ruffin Snow from OK became the senior pastor. Tri-City Baptist Church, best known for its annual christmas play "The Promise" is building a reputation for something out of the ordinary among Baptist Churches: an annual Bike Week that starts May 1st.

In its fifth year, thousands of people will attend this five day event which will include a bike show, bike games, a three-hour ride to SC and back, air rides for kids, bicycle safety checks by the local fire department, and guest evaneglist Ken Freeman will bring the message from God's word nightly. A local Harley-Davidson dealer has become the largest sponsor of the week, and the local Chamber of Commerce has set up a display for the event. This year a new 2004 Harley-Davidson Sportster has been donated to the event to be given away.

"There are people who look at the church and say to themselves, 'I wouldn't be welcomed there,' " Pastor Snow said. "We're trying to say with this event, 'Yes, you would be.' "    

NC Bike Week May 1-5, 2004 at Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, NC

•Events for Saturday, May 1st will include registration for the bike show and games from (12:00-2:00 pm) The Bike Show (2:00-5:30 pm) will feature bikes in various classes including sport, touring, custom, cruiser, vintage, and a ladies class. All bikes will be eligible for the “Best of Show” Award. The Bike Games (3:00-5:30 pm) will have an obstacle course, water balloon toss, and slow ride.For kids, we will have air rides, clowns, and the Conover fire department will do a safe ride for kidos on their bicycles. Ken Freeman, guest speaker, will start at 5:30 pm. •Sunday events, May 2nd begin at 9:00 am with Sunday School. The Ken Freeman live event will start at 10:30 am. A free lunch is provided for the bikers, followed by a three-hour scenic ride toward York, SC that will benefit the Children’s Homes of NC at Thomasville. At 5:00 p.m. everyone will enjoy a free BBQ and a concert by Vic Wheeler & the Eleventh Hour Band outside, followed at 7:00 pm by the AWARDS NIGHT and a 2004 Carolina Panthers Harley-Davidson Sportster Give Away.

Enter to win the Harley-Davidson by registering for the Bike Show or Games, the Ride on Sunday, or by attending one of the Ken Freeman Live events. You must be present to win during the Awards Night and be over 18 years old. Attending all events will increase your chances of winning. Both bikers and non-bikers can win.    

Ken Freeman will be the featured speaker, as NC Bike Week continues Monday thru Wednesday at 7:00 pm each night.
